The data structure and the documentation for the exit point I'm trying to work with actually define the field as being binary AND 4 bytes long. It is not an integer, so I didn't want to use 10I 0. It contains hex codes that are to be compared to X'1800', X'1803', etc. I'm not sure yet if those hex codes are in the first two bytes of the field or the last two. At this point, I'm just trying to get a look at the hex codes that actually come through from the exit point call to see what they look like. I was trying to convert the entire 4-byte field (positions 29-32 of the data structure) to character just to include it in a log file I can review. Since this is coming in from ODBC connections, it is extremely hard to debug interactively. > -----Original Message----- > From: Joe Pluta [SMTP:joepluta@PlutaBrothers.com] > Sent: Thursday, January 30, 2003 3:58 PM > To: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries > Subject: RE: Convert hex to char (cvtch) > > > From: Smith, Nelson > > > > I'm trying to use cvtch to convert hex data to character, and I'm > > getting a space offset error. > > This is the dreaded 'B' binary data type issue. > > D hexFunctCode 4B 0 > > The above does NOT define a binary field 4 bytes long.
