I agree with the last statement, but if I may stick my toe into dangerous territory here... *In my experience*, higher-ups who make decisions regarding shop standards that restrict the usage of free-form (or even RPG-IV for that matter) COULDN'T GIVE A RAT'S A$$ as to whether it's the best thing since sliced bread. They may have been an RPG programmer 10 years ago, or they may still be, or they may never have been. If it means in their mind that it's that much harder to fill a departing programmer's shoes then, guess what, yes, they'll restrict to a lowest- or lower- common denominator. Question: Are there more RPG programmers out there who know RPG-III than those who know RPG-IV? I think so. Another question: In any given RPG shop, are there programmers who know the business end like the back of their hand who refuse to learn RPG-IV (I've seen this personally) and their value to the decision makers reaches mythic status? I.e., "If Bill were to leave us, oh woe to the company." In the immortal words of Dave Barry, "I am NOT making this up". I have lived through this hell. Again, this is just my experience. I do not "condone" this type of thinking, as much as one like myself can "condone" someone who signs my paycheck and says I am not allowed to write in RPG-IV. <have a sense I'm gonna regret sending this...> - Dan __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
