are u doing the addenvvar inside your rpgle pgm, or you have a CL wrap up? 
If the latter, make sure that you compile your rpgle with activation group 
*caller.  ILE pgm may not be picking up the classpath. 
you can print the JVM system properties before calling your actual method 
to make sure the classpath is set properly.

The Jar file is specified in the CLASSPATH parameter - not specifying that 

was one of my earlier mistakes. The full command at job startup reads:

ADDENVVAR  ENVVAR(CLASSPATH) +
             VALUE('/commercial/genesys/lib/genesys.jar'+
             ) REPLACE(*YES)
MONMSG     MSGID(CPF0000)

i'm still getting the No Class Def Found Error though...??
