Have you thought of using
PING RMTSYS('10.10.10.10') MSGMODE(*QUIET *ESCAPE)
with a MONMSG instead?
If you want a CL less solution you could try
cmd='PING RMTSYS('10.10.10.10') MSGMODE(*QUIET *ESCAPE)'; // fix the
apostrophes
errorflag=system(cmd);
Select;
When ErrorFlag=0; // ok
When ErrorCPF='TCP3210';
// Scooby Doo, where are you?
Other;
// This choice location for rent
EndSl;

Subject: Retain Command Messages
I have written a PING equivalent command calling an rpgle program that
determines the IP address for our stores and then issues the PING using a
call to QCMDEXC. When I execute PING [IP] from the command line, the
results display in the message subfile. If I execute my PNG [store#]
command, the results are gone on completion. I can display the joblog for
the result. Is there any way to retain the results of the message
subfile?
I know this sounds very familiar to my previous post on the QMHSNDPM API,
but the messages are the result of the PING command, not ones I am
creating.
