Just to complete the statement, you said:
"Because SBMJOB is a command line, there's no way to declare a type or size
there" (I add) without the use of a command object.  Parsing a string
through a *CMD object gives the command line interpreter all it needs to
know about the data types and dimensions of the parameter data.  This is the
best way (IMO) to ensure that these data-decimal errors don't come up.
