Buck, Just to complete the statement, you said: "Because SBMJOB is a command line, there's no way to declare a type or size there" (I add) without the use of a command object. Parsing a string through a *CMD object gives the command line interpreter all it needs to know about the data types and dimensions of the parameter data.
