Joe, I read the page you suggested.  There was little mention of OO.  Most
of it was on how to use OO tools and ideas.  Very little on OO.  In fact I
saw absolutely nothing about  hiding data.
 
*shrug*  as so often happens the evangelist loses sight of the underlying
scripture.  Sorry Joe, but your reference added nothing to the discussion. 
I'll still buy into Hans' expertise.

Nope, not unique. But definitely a requirement of all OO design. Every
single text on OO design, and every prominent proponent of OO, from Djikstra
to Stroustrup, talks about information hiding as a primary concept of
abstract data types. And ADTs are the fundamental building block of OO.
 
Ada is NOT an OO language, it is a hybrid, like C++. Smalltalk, Eiffel,
Java and Simula are. Object notions include classes, inheritance,
information hiding and dynamic binding.
 
Interestingly enough, the paragraph above is not my opinion. It is the
opinion of the Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute.
