Anyone know of a technique, or routine, that will take a variable length, delimited, string of data and parse it into a data structure?

Ideally, I would like to have the data structure externally defined ... and have the parsed values placed in each field sequentially.

I could probably write something myself, but if there's code out there already, why reinvent the wheel?
