I tried to make that clear in my example:

       DOW MASTS <> 'A';
           READE TKMANO MAFILEL6
           IF %EOF(MAFILEL6);
               LEAVE;  // That is, continue at code following ENDDO.
           ENDIF;
       ELSE;
           // Code to perform when we get to MASTS='A'
           ...
       ENDDO;

The ELSE clause would be performed once the condition on the DOW is 
false. After the ELSE clause is performed, control continues after the 
ENDDO. Any LEAVE within the DOW group would cause the whole structure to 
be exited early, and the ELSE clause would not be performed.

I'd like to clear up one thing. I'm not advocating such a thing, since 
in one language I know that uses this, I can never remember when the 
ELSE clause is actually performed. And personally, I've never actually 
coded an ELSE clause on a WHILE loop in that particular language. I just 
threw it out as a possibility.
