This will probably work for me. I will need to read without lock to
display, and with lock to update.
For the user space I just need to set the pointer in the *inzsr. Once I
learned how to use it, it is very simple, even easier than the data area.

Hm. I've used data areas in very high volume situations and not had that
problem. Here is code that works for me.
D SWTEND S 1
C *DTAARA DEFINE SWTEND
C *LOCK IN SWTEND
C MOVE '0' SWTEND
C OUT SWTEND
To read the data area without locking it, I just do an IN operation.
How did you have the data area defined?
