Brad,
For varying length fields, if you include spaces, then they're not
automagically going to trim.... In order to get the output you want, youd
have to do something like this:
eval varField = %trimr('^^^^^^Data^^^^^')
which would populate '^^^^^^Data' into varField.
As you coded it, the resulting value is exactly as assigned, complete with
leading and trailing blanks....

Assume I have field varField defined as Varying in an RPG
program.
Now I say:
eval varField = '^^^^^^Data^^^^^'
(Each ^ is a blank)
Should varField then equal:
"^^^^^^Data"
or
"Data"
If the latter, why? And how can I get it to equal the
prior? My testing shows I am getting the latter (no
preceeding spaces).
