And of course every RPG programmer should be comfortable with a prototype like:

size_t iconv (cd, inbuf, inbytesleft,
              outbuf, outbytesleft)

            iconv_t     cd;
            char        **inbuf;
            size_t      *inbytesleft;
            char        **outbuf;
            size_t      *outbytesleft;

BIFs are for wimps; real programmers use APIs.
