I, too believe that, in principle, if blanks are considered zero, then all blanks should equal all zeroes... Okay, I'm off the soap box. Here's an idea. Why not just pre-pend a zero at the beginning of the field being converted? For example, PackedX = %Int( '0' + StringA ) A leading zero will never change the value of a number, and if StringA is all blanks, then zero you shall receive. Will this work?
