Good point.  And you do counter the other statement.  However doing it 
programmatically allows you to get the performance out of a batch job, 
while still doing the force in the interactive job to counter that long 
"let's update that record, but go to lunch before doing the rest and 
exiting out of the program".

In most places I have worked the FRCRATIO (i.e. CHGPF) is accessible by
operators, sys admins, dba's, programmers where as the FEOD opcode would 
be
maintainable ONLY by the programming staff....
