Joe,
As long as they are guaranteed for IBM maintenance, you shouldn't have a
problem. If you have a drive failure in your system, it is probably going to
be replaced with a used drive, even by IBM. Just be sure to have your
maintenance provider "inspect" your system after the drives are installed,
and officially accept the drives for their maintenance agreement.

When we recently replaced the drives in our system the "inspection" was to
start SST, make sure the drives were working properly, print a copy of the
rack configuration with the serial numbers.

Subject: Used Drives

We are thinking about adding some used drives (35 gb, 15k) to our system.
We have always purchased new drives, so we have no experience with "used"
drives. Any comments, horror stories, or sage advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe Wells
