Notepad opens the data and displays it correctly? I thought it got a bunch
of garbage in Notepad (the data you posted) but maybe I misread which
application displayed the data incorrectly.

One thing to remember is if the file is already created with one CCSID and
you change the CCSID of that existing file, the data in the file does not
magically change to the new CCSID.

I agree with Scott, if the CCSID was wrong, I would still be able to open
the file, but with rubbish data.
But Notepad sees it OK, so I don't think thats it.

Delphi is a current version (5) and usually gets things right for 32bit
Windows, although I have known it to be a bit sensitive at times.

I think it points to the IFS Mode. I definately had to change some rights to
get the thing going, so I need to do a bit more checking there.
(whats a umask ??)

Unfortunately I am now out of the office until Thursday morning (its 6.15 pm
here), so won't be able to check out any ideas until then.

Hmmm... it sounds like the iSeries is doing it's job properly if Notepad
can open the file.  I don't know what Delphi does differently...  Unless
Delphi is an old version, like Win 3.1?

Why would you have to manually give authority?  Something's not kosher
here...  If you've got a file mode of 511, everyone should have both read
& write authority to the file.   Unless it's a umask problem?  What's your
umask set to?
