Rob, > Looks like 10 bytes to me. But I am sure there is an explanation. It *looks* like 10 bytes in data file buffers, but the disk consumption itself is only 4 bytes per field. Even trigger buffers have the 10 character decoded value, as the conversion happens at a lower level in the data mgmt routines. Doug
