DSPLY without a result field may or may not wait for you to press
ENTER.  It depends on what is showing on the screen before you do a
DSPLY (I think it's controlled by whether the current screen has RSTDSP
or not).  For example, from the main menu, DSPLY will flash without a
result field; from a PDM command line, DSPLY will wait for ENTER.  Kind
of icky behaviour imo, but it's always worked this way.
