I am curious: Could one use a *DSPF as a file that contains the names needed for xml? --------------------------------- Booth Martin http://www.martinvt.com --------------------------------- -------Original Message------- From: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries Date: 03/18/05 15:07:24 To: rpg400-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: Variable Variable names > I also find that, with a request like this one, there is > usually a semi-unreasonable demand at the heart of it Writing one's own XML is one of the new business problems being tackled. So one might have a file containing the description of the XML to emit rahter than hard-code it inside an RPG program: MASTER, NAME PRODUCT,DESC One needs to write out the XML with the names of the elements and the contents of the database tables: <NAME> St John-Smythe, James </NAME> <PRODUCT> Beretta, 9mm </PRODUCT> One needs to go out to the MASTER file and retrieve the contents of the NAME column to put it in the XML file. Hope this clarifies one possible use for such a request. --buck -- This is the RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries (RPG400-L) mailing list To post a message email: RPG400-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/rpg400-l or email: RPG400-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/rpg400-l. .
