RE: Embedded SQL in RPGLE pgm

Ok, what I have is this now:
           updateStatemnt = 'UPDATE WPUSCHEDLE SET '
                          + %Trim(ctrName) + '='
                          + %Char(retField) + ', '
                          + %Trim(numName) + '='
                          + %Char(retField) + ' WHERE ('
                          + %Trim(dateName) + '='
                          + %Char(inPickupDate) + ') AND (WPUAREA='''
                          + Wcgararea + ''')';
      /End-Free
     C/Exec Sql
     C+ PREPARE mainUpdate From :updateStatemnt
     C/End-Exec
     C/Exec Sql
     C+ EXECUTE mainUpdate Using :updateStatemnt
     C/End-Exec

but it doesn't seem to be working.  What am I missing?

After the PREPARE, use EXECUTE as follows:
C/Exec SQL EXECUTE mainSelect using :mainStatement

If you want to update the file, change "Select * from" to "Update" and add
the appropriate SET clauses.

statements
work?
