We have a program which loops through records in a file. I want to
write an edit routine (procedure) for the fields on this file and simply
return an edit status and one or more error conditions (probably in an
array).

Rather than reading the record again in the edit routine, I thought I
could pass a pointer to the record layout from the file process program.
The edit program would simply treat the fields as 'input' for edit
processing.

I presume that I would include the record as a data structure in the
second program and somehow or other 'connectt' it to the pointer passed
in, so that the DS layout was 'overlaid' to storage from the pointer
reference position.

I'm sure it can be done but don't know how.

I hope I've explained the problem clearly, and that someone can provide
some code snippets or specific references .

Thanks
