Joe,
That's typical of calling an API today. If the "reserved" or unused fields
are set to X'40' instead of X'00' sometime (always?) many of the APIs,
particularly MI instructions, choke.  But we can never catch everything.
Glad you caught that one, I've spent days writing/rewriting/reading to try
to track down that type of problem.

It must have realized you were on the job, Aaron, because it works now.  It
seems that I forgot to initialize one reserved field to all x'00', and that
was enough to make the API choke.
