I think you would be limited to trapping for the 9999 limitation and 
manually coax the user into processing what they have now, and reposition 
the list.

An alternative would be to not use subfiles.  You could do the old S/36 
technique of using an array, work file, or something and having individual 
fields on your screen for each "cell".  Extreme PITA to code but back in 
the S/36 days we did actually get this stuff done.  Then again, you lose 
all of the system handled PageUp stuff and you end up doing it all 
manually.
