I am a novice RPG programmer so this question might be quite simple for you pros, but here it is. I created lots of physical files using 'CREATE TABLE.....' via SQL and went about selecting, updating or deleting from those files using Java code where I did not require record format. When I am trying to do a simple update(or any other operation) to a physical file using RPG, do I have to know the record format name of the physical file? If so, is there a way I can go back and assign a record format name to those physical files that I created using SQL?. Is it even necessary for a file to have a record format name? Or, does the iSeries automatically assigns some record format name for any table? If so, where can I grab it from? Any help/input in this matter will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Mike.
