you can %subst each char of the string:
ix = %len(string) ;
tx = 1 ;
dow ix > tx ;
ch1 = %subst(string:tx:1) ;
%subst(string:tx:1) = %subst(string:ix:1) ;
%subst(string:ix:1) = ch1 ;
ix = ix - 1 ;
tx = tx + 1 ;
enddo ;
