Here's an example of retrieving the contents of a 
string via the JNI API:

GetStringUTFChars and ReleaseStringUTFChars and they
work fine too.  

You asked me if I set the JNIENV_P. My test code
started manually the Jvm and probably it was not
set correctly because I got the error MCH74A5.
