JK; Got it finally. This is what I changed. I took this, somestr = + '(' + %trim(sheetname1) + '!' + %trim(cellname) + '+' + %trim(sheetname2) + '!' + %trim(cellname) + '+' + %trim(sheetname3) + '!' + %trim(cellname) + '+' + %trim(sheetname4) + '!' + %trim(cellname) + ')'; and changed it to this. somestr = '(' + %trim(sheetname1) + '!' + %trim(cellname) + '+' + %trim(sheetname2) + '!' + %trim(cellname) + '+' + %trim(sheetname3) + '!' + %trim(cellname) + '+' + %trim(sheetname4) + '!' + %trim(cellname) + ')'; And I stopped getting the Operands are not compatible with the type of operator error. I would have thought the original one would work, but maybe their was an invisible char there since I cut and pasted it into my code. Much thanks to you and scott. I really appreciate your patience. This is the first time I have used this site for problems I'm having, I'll be watching for you Later. Darrell
