Aaron, I'm with Joe on this one - by default I include a 300+ byte PSDS /COPY member in *every* RPG/400 and RPGLE program I write and I've never seen any performance problems. Mind you, I've never taken out the PSDS definition and compared performance without, but even in my web server programs (where I'm trying to mimic interactive green-screen performance over the web), it's pretty blazing. Hell, I include it even if I don't use it. My guess is that it's much cheaper, performance-wise, than having to activate a bunch of service programs or other such stuff that happens on an initial invocation. A few milliseconds, perhaps. Aaron, I have used the PSDS throughout my career, in programs ranging from large monolithic programs to small service-type programs called thousands or even millions of times. At no point have I ever noticed a performance hit from using the PSDS. Never. Joe
