Just to clarify: SMTP is a network protocol, not a format for e-mail messages. You're probably concerned about the fact that your present technique only lets you send plain text messages, and doesn't allow for any additional formatting, etc.

If so, you might be interested in the following articles. They demonstrate how to format messages various different ways (and the downloadable code demonstrates even more...) all from RPG programs.
