Try adding a null to the end of the string:

outbuffer = %trimr(string) + x'00';

I believe it's using fputs() api.

 I'm using the following code:

D WriteIFSRec     PR              *   ExtProc('_C_IFS_fputs') 
D  ouBuffer                       *   Value Options(*STRING)
