One other place to look:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RPG_programming_language I don't know who
maintains that particular topic in wikipedia so I don't know if it is
slanted at all.

I would also add something in regards to the second to none ease of record
level DB access. I didn't realize how much I LOVE this feature until I
started doing a lot of Java and PHP programming.

To expand on David's post I would declare the ILE environment and its
ability to open doors for interaction with many different languages like
Java, C, COBOL, etc.

On last note I would even consider starting the paragraph out with "The name
RPG poorly describes the dynamic language we have today..."

My $.02,

Subject: Describing RPG IV

I have been asked to write a one paragraph description of the RPG IV
programming language and thought I'd submit something here to everyone and
get their feedback.

Here is what I have come up with so far, feel free to make any suggestions:

"RPG IV is a high level language developed exclusively for the IBM iSeries
system. It is superior to many other languages due to its integration into
the i5OS operating system, stability as a programming language, and backward
compatability. RPG IV has the ability to process data in both ineractive
and batch modes, and it also interfaces with the apache web server."
