I've been trying to keep away from printed logs for debugging; I've been using a simple debugging message queue instead. One object to manage, no open/close, multiple programs can use it concurrently, it can auto-wrap if desired, re-usable for a long time. With a little forethought, a few simple procs and some message descriptions can go long ways. Use CPF9897/98 over and over or devise your own msgids; make your own msgids more generic or specific to individual apps/pgms/procs.

And of course you can always "print" the queue contents if you really want to.
