There are API's for this. Here's some sample code:
D@__errno         PR              *   ExtProc('__errno') 
                                                         
Dstrerror         PR              *   ExtProc('strerror')
D errnum                        10I 0 value              
When one of the Unix type API's fails, calling %str(strerror(errno)))
will return an explanation of the error in human readable format.

Hi folks,
In my RPG program:
When there is a failure using open(), write(), etc. to access IFS files,

don't see any error messages in the joblog.
When there is a problem, does anyone know if there is a way to determine
what the error might be?
I found my bug by trial and error.  My open() wouldn't work when I used
the 'Exclusively Create' flag but it does now that I use the 'Create
File
if not exist' flag.
