A dozen years ago I worked on a project that used a bar-code scanner and a scale for a shipping manifest station. We ended up using RS-232 connections to a PC running Client Access (PC Support at the time - heh). And a VB app to manage everything, including sending the data up to the AS/400. Because the scale used RS-232, which the iSeries does not read. But the local vendor for bar-code equipment was very helpful.

As for barcodes into the iSeries directly, look up "keyboard wedge" and iSeries in Google. The keyboard wedge technique is not limited to the iSeries. I just did that search and found several suppliers.

Hello All,

I'm sure there must be many of you using the bar code reader & a swipe
card reader (to clock IN & OUT) on the iSeries. Well this is the first
time I have an opportunity & I would like some help. Could any of you
point me to the right direction or rather where I could find some
information/examples in terms of connectivity of the bar code reader to
the iSeries & processing the same using RPG.

Thank you very much for the same
