Subtract the number of days in the month less one:

   FirstDay = MyDate - %days(%subdt(MyDate : *d) - 1);

Your current code would only work if MyDate had datfmt *EUR; it would 
work for all date variables if you code %CHAR(MyDate:*EUR).  But still, 
it's better to avoid messing with the formats at all, except where it's 
necessary due to having dates in character or numeric variables.
