I'm sure this is a simple question but I can't get around this for some

If I have an incoming field defined in the PI, I thought I could have it
also defined in a DS in order to split it up without doing any %subst.

It's not compiling due to "The Name entry is already defined on a
Definition Specification".

What am I doing wrong?

You're not accepting that the compiler is correct.

You have never been able to use a DS sub-field as a parameter (even on a program call). You can use the DS itself--just not the sub-fields.

Open your heart to the compiler, accept it's truth, use a different name for one of the variables, and copy the input parameter to the sub-field prior to processing.

Simon Coulter.
