I appreciate the fact that you dealt with the issue, and I should have 
mentioned that in the first place.  However, I think that the case I 
gave may be more commonly used now than when the site you reference was 
written. The author says "[m]ost software and even domain name 
registrars, however, still stick to the 37 characters they're used to," 
which I think is a bit out of date, at least on the software side.

I've run into that particular restriction often enough that I thought it 
was worth mentioning, as I think that similar schemes are employed by a 
relevant number of users.
