OK I did a little experiment. A test file with a record in it, with a
alpha field of 8, with a negative sign. when moving this field of 8 to a
numeric field of 8 loses the negative sign, when the sign is to the left.
when it is to the right a 0 takes it place.
This seems to be the problem.

Edit code K indicates a trailing negative sign ... any chance another
field is overlapping the column after the ones (10^0) place of QNUM?
