A reverse DNS lookup on what?  Does the OP have the IP address?  To do a 
reverse lookup, you have to know the IP address of the system you want 
to look up...

The OP's question is really impossible to answer without knowing 
something about the context, (or "perspective" as I put it in my last 
message) of the program that's trying to get the name programmatically. 
 What information does that program currently have?  Why is it trying 
to look this up?  What does it intend to do with the hostname?

Without having any information about it, we can only answer in very 
general terms...
