So I guess I'm wondering what's going on here... How the heck does
CEETSTA solve the problem? It does the same thing!
And since CEETSTA is supposed to be identical to %ADDR(PARM) I'm
a bit confused at your message.
I'm afraid that I only have empirical evidence to offer: since we switched to using the API, all of our false positives have gone away and the applications have been stable for years. %ADDR(PARM) and CEETSTA do not appear to be doing the same thing.
I've been searching for the source that I read on the mechanics of CEETSTA, but I haven't been able to re-locate it. I will keep looking.
The gist that I derived from it was:
- Using %ADDR(PARM) is like peering out your windows to see who is coming up the walk. You can get faked out.
- CEETSTA is the dog circling the neighborhood. It knows where everyone is and what's in their pockets.
Understandably, until I can find the documentation that I was reading, this is reduced to an opinion. The technique did help us and, hopefully, it can help someone else.
G'night.
