HOLD IT!EGL has all the same features as COBOL for defining records, and it will auto-convert between Java objects and EBCDIC structures on calls. It also has support for meta-data, including labels and validation which can be used to quickly build web pages.
PL/I has essentially the same record structure design as COBOL. That's one of the features it copied from COBOL.
