Actually, I believe that C and Java both allow "else if" to work like "elseif".

At least the IBM System i C manual has this example:
if (value > 0) 
  ++increase; 
else if (value == 0) 
  ++break_even; 
else 
  ++decrease;

Also I seem to recall using "else if" in gcc, but that was quite a while ago.
