The line only becomes more complicated. I say never put the file name ( or any other code or comment ) without a reason, like following a DO until.
That's why these arguments are senseless. You want to argue the Bill Clinton "it depends on what the meaning of is, is" semantic nonsense, fine. All I was saying was a FACT:

if %eof(CUSTMAST)

is more self-documenting than

if %eof()

If you saw these alone, one would tell you more than the other. There is no argument.

The argument is whether or not "self-documenting" or indeed any other attribute can be blindly adhered to when creating stylistic standards.
