RE: DDS Starting Line Number (SLNO)

Thanks, Barbara, for your answer.  I never thought of looking in the RPG
manual for a DDS specification.  Can I presume I can use a different field
for different display record formats?  (Assuming I need to have different
formats, using the SLN(*VAR) feature, on the display at the same time.)

You can use the SLN keyword to identify the variable (RPG III and IV). 
RPG requires that the variable be defined as 2 digits long.

Fmydspf    cf   e             workstn sln(startLine)
D startLine       s              2p 0
C                   eval      startLine = 5
C                   exfmt     rec
  /free
    startLine = 5;
    exfmt rec;

There might also be a way to identify a system field within the DDS, but I
only know about the SLN keyword.
