I was hoping to use the view in a procedural program that I really do not
   want to take the time to re-write....but I understand what you are saying.

   Well, no.  SQL cannot index a virtual table, only a physical file (PF).  A
   view will use any index over the source PF that the optimizer wants to
   use.  You must specify the order by in the select statement that is
   accessing the view.
