The problem that I am attempting to solve is that I am processing a CSV file that was created from an XL workbook. The workbook contains date fields that are currently in m/d/yyyy format. Due to support considerations, the client is not willing to allow use of the HSSF API's as this is a business critical applicaton and if anything breaks, they need to be able to have me fix it ASAP.
The issue I was attempting to get around was what if the customer changed the format of the date. Since the CSV file has no concept of date, it would just output a character value matching the dispayed value in the workbook.
Thanks for all the questions and suggestions.
