Adam,

Most of my career has been from the other side of the fence, employed by or partnering with independent software vendors. Is your company planning on licensing source code? If not, then that may be a valid concern. There's often some tug and pull between company programmers and software vendors who both want to support the package through custom programming. In many cases, vendors employ people who were once users of a package, but may also have been displaced by it.
