Open source projects are nice to have but are a pain to manage as an end
user. On the System i platform every project packages their software in
a different way (... and packaging is more than putting a file in a save
file). Linux users/developers have realized that and have nice packaging
systems. The System i platform lacks of both os projects and a packaging
system to easily manage (install, query, remove, update, ...) such a
project/package.

... and who should jump on this? IMO most of the System i community has
made it clear through their lack of action that they have (almost) no
interest open source projects. Some individuals stand out from the crowd
but that's it.

My 2 cents.

Mihael

I would like to contribute to the "Save IBM's Development Funds"
community
project - is there anybody out there who is willing to host my XML
generation
and XML templating tool, complete with user documentation and
examples?

It kind of surprises me that any number of open-source proponents
haven't jumped on this. It seems to me that the strongest open-source
voice and general do-gooder in the RPG community has been Giovanni
Perotti. I seem to recall that he teamed up with Paul Touy to host the
www.easy4000.net site.

It would be good to see some consolidation of some open-projects along
with a common voice.

Nathan.
