Not sure, Scott, I don't see how you could unless you're skipping the
#ifndef __cplusplus_nomacro__ section.  On the VRM540 system I'm looking at,
they're referenced toward the top, in lines 0000.36 to 0000.48.  Lines look
like:

    int isprint ( int );

HTH.  Or, what am *I* missing?  :}
