Now to implement a client history file, that would mean a
hell of a lot of programs to update.

Why? Just Write a after update trigger program.
As soon as the client becomes inactive, i.e. the state gets
set, write the record into the history file and delete the
record from the original file.

Birgitta, I meant that we'd have to look at all those programs to make sure that the <virtually deleted> records weren't used. But I like that idea, thanks.
