I'm still fairly new to SQL but I believe the CHAR function returns a 
character representation of the number.  If my number (7,4) is 123.4567, 
CHAR would return '123.4567' (hex x'F1F2F34BF4F5F6F7').  What I need is hex 
x'1234567F'.

Luis came up with the answer I needed, but thank you.  I appreciate all 
responses.

Why not just use the SQL CHAR function?  I can't remember off hand if the
CHAR function will include a sign.  But even if it doesn't you could write a
SELECT CASE to place the sign to the right of the number.

Am I missing something?
